Designers of Tumblr

designers of tumblr is a place
for designers to submit their
work and show it off to ourfollowers
and the rest of the world!

we publish tumblr themes, illustrations typography, minimalist posters, product design, crafts, packaging, banding and anything else that's in between!

- taken from Designers of Tumblr
I have been lucky enough to have been featured three times (from memory) on this lovely blog. My most recent being my Valentine's work.

see the post here

See the post here.

Thank's everyone who's been liking and rebloging! Means a lot! (thanks for the ego boost! haha) But seriously it makes me feel more motivated to create some more and a reassurance that going into design was the right decision.

You know you're a designer when...

So I came across this tumblr. It pretty much just has quotes or whatever submitted by people about how 'you know you're a designer when...'

Here are some of may favourites of the ones I have seen sofar.

All too true. Sadly a lot of the things posted show me how much I am still a wannabe designer.. But I will get there!

Also here is another site I came across; Good Fucking Design Advise. It's all mostly things that make sense and anyone could tell you but amusing and relevant none the less. Here is one of them.
Only thing is, the kerneling on this is terrible.

And here is the family friendly version of the site.
Also genius advise.

Hope you people of the internet enjoy this.

Fireflies

Anyone heard of Owl City? It's Adam Young's one man 'electronica-pop' band. Not normally my cup of tea (not that I drink tea other than Easy Way and iced tea) but I do like his stuff. Fireflies is one of his new songs (at least I think so, to me it's new) and I have to say it is one of my favourite songs at the moment. It has rekindled my liking for Owl City again, really even just the name is cool. Check out his site!

And OH MY GOSH Owl City is coming to SYDNEY in March! Best part is that he'll be performing a UNSW! YAY there are perks to (most probably) getting into my second choice uni (although still hoping that I make it). He'll be coming round with Cobra Starship so that should be some fun.

ALSO check out Kina Grannis' cover of Fireflies. I LOVE it! I think half the reason why I'm loving Fireflies so much right now is because her cover is awesome. Kina is an singer-songwriter who has been spreading her stuff through youtube. She is VERY good and has a new album is coming out next year. Unfortunately she's in the states and doubt she'll be coming down here any time soon but fingers are crossed. Visit her site!

Now I would post up the video of her cover here but I'm not entirely sure how to do that yet, so if someone wants to teach me please do!
Edit: Here's the vid of Kina's cover.

Thanks Gail for helping me out!

Anyway my room is NOT going to tidy itself so I shall go do that.

See you later alligator(s)!

P.S. I'm posting from my brother's laptop in my room! He is in Queensland and I have been taking advantage of his laptop because he left it at home. Hehe...

Would've been nice

Found this on My Life Is Average.
Today, I discovered that my college level math book came with 3-D glasses, which are to be used to view the 3 dimensional shapes portrayed in the book. I'm glad the textbook companies understand how college students learn. MLIA
I wish we had these back at school...

ah procrastination...

*Hello*
*I am*
*Procrastinating*
*thumbs up*

Pictures courtesy of La PhotoCabine. It's a little French site, so it's all in French. But try it out. It's fun and easy to figure out (you only need to click 2 different things). All you need is your own webcam and it does the rest. You can also have the photos formatted differently. Found the link to it via + handmadelove +.
I should get back to study...

the periodic table of ELEMENTS

Look what my new desktop wallpaper is! Just for you chemistry, because you're SO special. Found on Anneka Tran's blog. My desktop seems to like her stuff. But its a fairly cool periodic table might I add. Although it would be crap to have in the chemistry exam, there isn't all the info on it, just cool pictures.

That's all folks, just thought I would share. Might come back with something else to blog about later.

salt and pepper meet rubik

How awesome are these?! They are Rubik's Cruet Salt & Pepper Mill. I swear some people are so clever. First Mr Rubik then the people responsible for this piece of GENIUS. When I have my own place I want these! Actually I've seen plenty of really cool salt and pepper shaker sets. I should start a collection and set up a shelf to display them in the dinning room.

Anyway I found these at fredflare.com. I think I have shared some other things from this place before, I love a lot the stuff they have there. It's all so cool! Anyway here is what it has to say about these. Excerpt found here.
You’ll look like a genius with these two mock Rubik’s cube, salt & pepper mills on your kitchen table! The white top is for salt & the red top is for pepper, so you will never get ‘em mixed up. Both mills have adjustable ceramic grinders so you can choose fine or coarse. Easy to clean, plastic outer.
It's a shame that they don't ship internationally. I would buy a set of these, and a whole lot of other stuff too. I would buy them for my bother actually.

Quote

Found this quote via Daydream Lily. The origin of this is somewhat unknown, apparently it's been circling through blogs for a while now but this is the first time I've ran into this. Thought I would share.

Hope you enjoy!

You are the cream in my coffee

Well I had another craft blog surfing spree which started yesterday afternoon and finished way past midnight (note: I started this post during this surfing spree but I am finishing it now - Friday, 8:30pm). Back to what this post is meant to be about, during my craft blogging I came across this photo set on flikr.

It's a small book by Emily of The Black apple. Made as a birthday present, it contains the lyrics to an OLD song "You're the cream in my coffee" and illustrations to accompany each line.

LYRICS + some of my favourite pages
♥
You're the cream in my coffee.
You're the salt in my stew.
You're the starch in my collar.
You're the lace in my shoe.
You will always be my necessity,
I'd be lost without you.
♥
Most men tell love tales,
Each phrase dove tails.
You've heard each known way,
This way is my own way.
You will always be my necessity,
I'd be lost without you.
♥
You're the sail on my loveboat,
You're the Captain and Crew.
You will always be my necessity,
I'd be lost without you.
♥
You give life savour,
Bring out its flavour.
So, this is clear dear,
You're my Worcestershire.
♥
You're the sail on my loveboat,
You're the Captain and Crew.
You will always be my necessity,
I'd be lost without you.

It's very cute, both the lyrics and the pictures. Well just thought I would share it because it made me smile. Hope it did the same for you.

magic bean buyer

Magic Bean Buyer is the etsy store owned by Jamie. I found it through lushlee.com, formally known as Jars of Cute. Jamie is an artist, jewelry maker, seamstress and typesetter/printer and sells her handmade figurines and accessories in her etsy store.

I have to say the stuff she makes are SO CUTE! It makes me want to get into sculpting, although that involves money. I can barely satisfy my fabric cravings, despite the fact i don't quite have the time to be crafting with my HSC only a month away. So once I have an income I may try playing around with sculpting, probably using SCULPEY, an oven-bake polymer clay which comes in LOTS of colours.

Well I can't wait till after HSC. I WANT A CRAFTING SPREE and a three month summer holidya seems like the PERFECT time. Although I think I will be spending alot of this making Christmas presents coz im too cheap to buy individual presents, I might go for an assembly like thing (so not so personal hand made gifts but hand made none the less).

So much for the weekly blog entry, its barely been a few hours and I have already updated.
Adiós,

Over

It's over, it's over now. Move over... now i need to study.

Well as of yesterday I finished my HSC music performances and today the marking of my DT major was done up in the senior study area of the library. It's a good feeling knowing that I have already completed part of my HSC, although the exam period is fast approaching and I HAVE TO START STUDYING! Not looking forward to that. But first i must clear my room. It's going to take a while. I started today, but the internet is distractions and i keep stopping to get a snack (need to stop snacking!).

Anyway today i had music and DT, working on grad song now in music and doing nothing in particular in DT. It's fun! Haha. And for a cleaning update, i can see bigger patches of my carpet now, which really needs to be vacuumed!

I have also been surfing the net, as you do to procrastinate cleaning. Found some really cool things. I want this. It's so totally awesome! I love that site, Jars of Cute. Check it out! ALSO want this!
Isn't it CUTE!? Its from fredflare.com.

Short post today, I'm so lazy to type stuff up these days.

Ciao,

what i was going to blog about yesterday...

So here is the failed blog from yesterday.
Giving in to temptation...
I couldn't take it anymore. I finally did it. I started writing a blog entry. Oh the shame. I told myself I wouldn't. I should learn to keep my word on things like this. Learn to say 'NO' to procrastination. Haha

Well anyway, today I was SUPPOSED to study religion. Did that happen? Course not! Not with my epic procrastination skills. What did I do? STARVE! I swear there was NOTHING to eat at home today. It was so sad. After church my parents and my sister went... somewhere and my brother and I were left at home. Pretty much all there was to eat was rice and we are both way to lazy to cook anything for ourselves (oh yeah, we'll be fine when we move out.. ha).

Whilst procrastinating...
And that's how it finished, or didn't finish rather. Also to gail's comment about my posts being so long that you cant remember what you were going to comment about when you get to the end.I shall try to cut down. Starting next post. Yeah i understand your pain. i think its because i get bored halfway in writing and stop and when i come back i have more to write. And there i go again with the off topic rambling!

Okay I need to read my last post again because i dont remember the order of which i was going to retell my tale... back in a sec! Okay there is a lot less in there than the size of the post might suggest, i might need to stop rambling.

So now presenting my new desktop! Haha. This is SO cute! The EIGHT planets of our solar system, because Pluto got dumped. Got it off deviant as i said. It is by a British illustrator Anneka Tran and this is her blog. My favourite is between Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus (LOL, I'm immature).

And now for my icon sets by Raindropmemory, a graphic designer from Thailand. I spent yesterday changing my icons and pick and choosing. That's what i get for downloading 2. I'm only showing the In Spirited we Love set (based upon the film Spirited Away) below because the other image is really long and doesn't come out well. But that one is called Summer, Love & Cicadas.

Oh and there was also my new fascination for brogues, a vintage style of shoe. This is all thanks to this post (i like hyperlinks!) on Anneka Tran's blog (go follow her blog!). I went on ebay and everything looking for some. Haha. I will have a pair before new years! I hope.

Anyway I don't want this to drag on. I might have another post for the rest of it.

Till the next post,
*j

a pool of rainbow spheres...

Need to find a ball pit! In the city, somewhere some how we shall have a pit of colourful plastic balls!! Hahaha...

Well there has been lots planned for Laura's Birthday Music Weekend. On that list is to play in a ball pit. BUT we don't know where. Lyn and I have been browsing the net but NOTHING!! Came across this site. It calculates the amount of balls you need to fill your appartment, room or any other space for that matter. I find it quite amusing. Gave me the idea of turing the common room into one giant ball pit on muck up day. That would be so much fun! But it would also be expensive. There is a site which sells a box of 500 for $107 but i dont know how much shipping/delivery is. Oh well.

Anyway exam update:

Thursday:
English Advanced paper 2: FAIL
That was so crap!! I hate specific questions. For module A, none of my notes or prepared point had ANYTHING to do with that question. And the other modules sucked too.

Music 1 Aural:
I love music. I really do. I love our class and how as the year draws to a close we get closer and closer. So in the three hours we had to spare between exams what did our music class do? Study? Nope. We played outside on the green grass under a clear blue sky. It was so much fun! And oh so very stress relieving. There was baseball with a stick, till we lost the ball (quite sad) and then we were just chucking my juggling balls around, I swear those juggling balls were such a good investment. They are the bonding tool of our music class. RAINBOW BALLS. hahahahaha

Friday:
Chemistry: FAIL
It was an easy exam. I just didn't study. Why?
1. Because I procrastinate WAY too much.
2. I only started studying the day before.
3. There is WAY too much content to get through.
4. Because I was tired after playing around before music.
5. I wanted to sleep.
So here is what happened. After music aural, caught the train and got home around 4.45. I ate as I always do then went on the computer, as usual. Went on MSN (big mistake). By the time I got up to start studying it was already 5.45. So I studied for a bit, I need a better way of studying, I'm not very good at it. Didn't get much done. Had a break. Back to study. Got my brother to explain some AAS stuff to me (it wasn't in the exam..!). Had another break and by the time that was over it was about 10.30. I go back to my room to study but feel really sleepy. My bed isn't the best place to study, but my desk is covered in mess and sitting at the computer table is too distracting. Plus it's warmer sitting in my bed. Anyway, so I thought 'maybe I should sleep for an hour and wake up and study again'. It's not a completely bad idea, thats what I do with english all the time and I get stuff done. So I set my alarm for 12 and go to sleep. So my alarm goes off at 12, I wake up turn the alarm off and go back to bed. I wasn't bothered. Too little too late was my reasoning for it. And being tired. Oh well.

Design & Technology:
My DT exam was, well... a DT exam. Nothing epic and all just BS-ed. Haha. It was funny though. After my chem exam, I met up with Shuang in the library and she was doing some online multiple choice questions on BOS. Well there were a few questions of the exams which we answered several times. So yeah, I knew those answers. And like always there were a few questions which were just plain stupid.

Now I just have religion left on Monday arvo and I am exam free till actual HSC! Then spending the rest of the exam period in DT working my ass off to finish my major. LESS THAN TWO WEEKS to go! I'm screwed. Then movies Thursday arvo. Walk-a-thon Friday. And UTS and USYD open days and Shuang's Shindig on Saturday. And those are my plans for the coming week. Anyone interested in stalking, feel free. Just pop up and say 'HI'.

Well I should sleep. I've spent WAY too long writing this.

Goodnight or goodmorning rather.

aww cuteness

I came across this site for an online magazine called papier mache whilst looking up a how-to for a tutu to give to a friend who wants a tutu as part of her costume for my dress-up party. It's SO cute! It's for kids and it's so cool and QUIRKY. It has really cool drawing and collages and clothes, which I wish I had as a kid or even now.

Also came across this tutorial for these cute bunny hat and paw mittens, which I want to try out this holidays. Might alter the design of the hat a bit so its more like a beanie. Maybe one with ear flaps too. And i need to fix the mitten pattern so that my hands can fit inside (designed for little children). Might try a different colour and different ears. Thinking black cat (mainly because I have some black felt already and cat ears are smaller - less felt, I'm SO stingy). But I will just go buy white felt tomorrow when I go fabric shopping at one of the frabric stores down High Street during my free tomorrow. My planned fabric shopping trip was meant to be for today but I got caught up at school. No big. So I will just got buy all my fabric tomorrow to buy the white felt and maybe some other colours on impulse. Haha.

My main reason to go fabric shopping is to buy the fabric I will use to make the flags for my bunting. All different colours; red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple! And also in different patterns like spots, stripes, stars, gingham and some plain (coz it's cheaper - but also depends what colours I can get). Not sure how much i need to buy, the bunting I'm making is going to be about 20m long. I will be using one of the spools (?) of ribbon bought at Rooty Hill intended for intives, made a terrible estimation on how much ribbon was actually on it and found one spool was about 20m when I unwinded one to measure its length. So I will just buy a metre of each to add up to 6m in total, whatever doesnt get used I can just add to my fabric scrap to make something out of some other time. Hopefully it won't cost too much. If it's more than $15 than I shall reconsider the felt.

So I will be making the bunting on the holidays as well as my own costume! Still need to figure out exactly what I want. Needs to be soon too so I can go buy (more) fabric and make it. I only really need to make my skirt/tutu, not sure which yet. The tutu will be cheaper and easier to make, the skirt will be more work, more expensive but should look cooler if I can pull it off (in terms of getting it made). I also already have a yellow tutu. Ah decisions! I should figure this out by next week so that I have time to make whatever it is I plan on making. I also need to make spats! I think I may have a change of footwear at the party. I will be wearing my black heels with the spats or my black boots (for when we are playing games). I don't know yet. Even if I don't end up wearing the heals/spats, I still want to make those spatsm which would involve buying more fabric! I'm buying too much fabric, or maybe I just have too many projects for the holidays. And crafting always leads to mess, I have enough mess in my room as it is.

Anyway stupid MSN is screwing up again! It's so annoying. Actually my whole computer is just lagging ever so slightly. My internet is also capped and is going slow (but fasted than first expected). Everything is slow. And everyone is sick. Okay not everyone and not at the same time. People are having rounds of sickness. Like when you sing Row, row, row your boat where one person starts and after the first phrase someone else starts and so on. I had my round of sickness last week. Some people have been away this week, like my Dad and my baby cousin. I guess it's the weather. And the flu. Swine flu for about 99% of flu cases in Victoria.

Well it is the last day of term 2 tomorrow. Naturally I will be going to school. No point in jigging, I have a good day. I have work that NEEDS to be done in DT, no bludging tomorrow! And it's more convenient going to the fabric store if I'm coming from school. But THANK GOODNESS it's the last day. I need a holiday where I can finally let myself sleep in on those cold winter mornings when all I can see outside my window is white from the morning fog. Just me under my warm sheets and blankets in a sweet dream, which I probably won't remember when I wake. No more waiting for the weather forecast to determine if I'll be wearing my skirt or pants to school. A time when I can sit down and eat a proper breakfast and finish my hot mug of milo. No more walking to the bus stop, watching my breath escape my warm lungs into the cold air, which leaves me shivering while I wait for it to arive. A short period of a fortnight in which I will not even be able to experience this bliss everyday due to a busy schedule. Only to return to be tested and assessed and the fast approaching trails overshadowed by the HSC.

Well I should be off to bed soon. I don't want to stay up and end up running late on the last day of school. Although I have been late quite alot lately.

Yes I WILL stop now.

OH WAIT!

I'm still yet to mention that I want to go to SPAIN! It was on Getaway earlier and I WANT TO GO! After uni! Or during, if i can do VisComm and International studies! ALSO I want to learn the Thriller dance!! It is on my holiday to do list! I don't know how successfull I will be. If I fail miserably I shall just wait till September (*singing in my head* do you remember... - haha) when my cousins come up for a wedding and they can teach me then. But that is AGES away. I can't wait that long. So I'd better learn it!

Okay I will stop for sure now. I SWEAR!

Adiós

*Edit: This is one EPICALLY long post. My bad. And it also won't let me put spaces in between my paragraphs. Maybe I wrote too much. Or my net is just being GAY!
